Something Artistic I Like Doing
Since I can
remember I’ve been drawing in books and loose papers, but I have to admit that consciously,
I’ve been drawing “good” since I was 14.
It started
as a hobby with internet friends with whom I got to share drawings of the same
series we enjoyed watching. Unfortunately, I don’t have the same amount of time
that in those years and we have lost touch, but those good memories remain in
me.
I usually
do a lot of sketches as daily basis. When I don’t draw, I feel like something
is missing in my day… And when I have time, I easily spent about 6-8 hours from
one day to paint in digital. It may sound a lot of narcissist, but I’m pretty
good at drawing and painting in digital. I used to draw commissions for foreign
clients… But I have lost the confidence to keep doing them.
So I might
share with you a simple process of the way I paint nowadays.
I start
with a rough sketch that can be drawn on paper or digitally (image 1). This is
the first idea, and it doesn’t mean that is gonna be the final result. Then, in
another layer, I draw the lineart (image 2); add the flat colors and environment
(it is crucial to do a proper mixture of the colors so everything looks… good
as a feeling, to say it somehow) (image 3); then add the shadows (image 4) and
this is probably the best part of it, because, after this all the mixing starts.
I merge all the layers I have and start painting in just one layer, and even if
I had this image that can be considered as a final result, I start playing with
colors, brushes, trying to give the effect that the line is not there (image 5).
I added special lightning and shadows as the final step (image 6), and then
start sharing in social media…!
I can’t
assure you what is the thing I enjoy the most of this activity without being narcissist,
because I got compliments from time to time and people have good reactions to
what I draw, but is probably getting the ideas out of my head what drives me to
keep drawing all the time. The magic of trying new things, like, if you didn’t
like how the drawing turned you can try another pose, another color palette,
another composition… Or maybe the fact that I’m seeing things that other people
can’t see and I have to draw them in order to share my world with them and communicate
effectively with them.
If you ever
wanted to try drawing because you liked it but ended up giving up because your
art was “not good enough”, I want to tell you, even if it sounds so cliché you
might hate me, to keep drawing. For anything we love to do we always have to
invest time to practice and become better, and even if you do not see results
right now, you will see in one year or two.
Believe me, if
not, just compare my drawings from 13 (image 7), 5 (image 8) and 2 (image 9)
years apart…
Regards
everyone and thank you for reading!!
